…STAB, STAB AGAIN!

The tunnel convulsed like a great worm waking up and discovering they were running through its innards. Chips of coral rained over them, and feelers extended from the barnacles, trying to latch onto the group. While Proudpaw and Shadeheart slashed the feelers away with their swords, Tudda activated an ability and her bare skin radiated small flames, scorching any of the appendages that drew near while she fought them.

“Have some Flame Everlasting, assholes!” the dwarf called.

But with him attacking, Shadeheart was unable to continue his lighting effect; the group had to depend on Tudda’s fiery body to illuminate their treacherous path. Which, with her violent movements and the stuttering quality of the flames, cast a maddened puppet show of shadows.

Tharakhi, like Tempest, had a harder time navigating the living walls. She rolled under feelers or dodged them, while he tried to slap them aside or veer out of their reach. Yet the tunnel was so narrow that after twenty feet or so, he and the assassin were bound by the tentacle-like things. They were as strong as steel cables.

Tudda rushed to their side and ran her flaming hands over the feelers. Though that aided them for a moment or two, Tempest and Tharakhi were restrained again as more barnacles popped open with the slithery, wriggling cords. Even Shadeheart became trussed from the waist down, and Proudpaw was so entwined he couldn’t see her face.

“I told you…they are for me!” a voice called from deeper within the Palace.

Tempest and his companions ceased struggling. The dungeon shook so violently that some coral formations snapped free and dashed on the floor. Larger, darker barnacles pushed through the smaller ones along the walls, and these emitted hands, legs, and even distended faces rather than feelers.

“What the fuck?” Tempest breathed, unable to move as one of the faces neared his. It might have belonged to an elf once, with pointed ears and delicate cheekbones, but a blackened barnacle filled its mouth, and feelers elongated from its eye sockets.

“Yes, you have come to me…no matter what it says, you are mine!” the voice cried in much happier tones.

Tudda fought against a feeler trying to wrap around her neck as her body flames snuffed out. “Anyone…got…a plan?”

“I could…shapechange,” Tempest grunted as a feeler slid up his chest. Another wrapped around his waist and squeezed.

Constriction Damage, -5 Health

“These things will…strangle us!” Tharakhi called.

With a fierce cry, Shadeheart sliced the feelers off Proudpaw’s face with a skilled, precise cut that didn’t harm her. Yet in doing so, he left himself open to the feelers at his waist, which lengthened until they encircled his arms.

“A pox upon this place!” the paladin yelled.

“Yeah, I think…you’re a…little late…for that one,” Tempest said, his teeth gritted as the feelers grew tighter around his body.

Proudpaw sucked in a breath, then scowled. “A spell, someone cast a spell!”

“I might burn us all if I…do…that!” Tudda cried, a feeler wrapping around her forehead, then her chest.

The tunnel quaked, then angled down nearly forty-five degrees.
